Jan-Dierk Schaal is a partner at ADVANT Beiten in Hamburg and a member of the practice group IP/IT/Media. His area of expertise comprises legal advice in the areas of intellectual property law (trademark law, advertising law), IT contract law, data protection, and AI. His practice focuses on advising on the establishment of compliance systems for protecting third-party IP rights and compliance with regulatory requirements when using digital and networked products, in particular the AI Regulation, GDPR, NIS2, and Data Act.
Jan-Dierk Schaal studied law at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms University of Bonn and the University of Melbourne. He passed his second state examination in Hamburg (2003). He was admitted to the bar in 2003. Before joining ADVANT Beiten, Mr. Schaal worked for more than 20 years in the area of intellectual property and IT law at SKW Schwarz Lawyers, KPMG Law, and PwC Legal. He has been with ADVANT Beiten since 2026.
