Dr Christoph Schmitt is Partner and Head of ADVANT Beiten's Frankfurt office and member of the practice group Banking, Finance & Restructuring. Dr Christoph Schmitt is responsible for banking, financing and insurance law, including the respective supervisory law. He also advises on commercial and corporate law. His clients include institutions and companies, non-profit corporations, family offices and high net worth individuals. His advice includes litigation (Financial Markets Litigation). In addition, Dr Christoph Schmitt, together with Heinrich Meyer, is responsible for financial restructurings and advises in particular on distressed finance.
Dr Christoph Schmitt studied law at the Universities of Heidelberg and Frankfurt am Main and was admitted to the bar in 1997. In 1999, he received his doctorate in banking supervisory law. Before joining ADVANT Beiten in 2012, Dr Christoph Schmitt worked for Commerzbank AG, Credit Suisse Group and the international law firm Clifford Chance LLP. Dr Christoph Schmitt was an honorary member of the City Council and Chairman of the "Financial Committee" of the City of Frankfurt am Main for 10 years.
