    Anna Klimova and Sergey Morozov participate in the v.p. Mozolin Student Competition for Arbitration of Corporate Disputes


    As is the tradition, lawyers of the Moscow office of BEITEN BURKHARDT Anna Klimova and Sergey Morozov participated as arbitrators in the V.P. Mozolin Student Competition for Arbitration of Corporate Disputes, which was held on 7-9 December 2018 in Moscow with the support of the Russian Arbitration Center.

     

    This year 340 students from Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Ekaterinburg, Tomsk, Vladivostok, Orenburg, Kazan, Perm, Chelyabinsk Region and Nizhny Novgorod registered for the competition. In total, approximately 90 team took part. Leading Russian professors and lawyers of Russian and international law firms participated as arbitrators in the competition.

     

    The competition is conducted in the form of a moot court, thereby enabling students not only to understand how corporate and procedural legislation is applied in practice, but also to work on the practical skills that today’s lawyer needs: legal analysis of a problem, research on a given topic, preparation of the legal arguments and the presentation of a position on a case in oral hearings.

     

    This year, the problem of the competition was dedicated to the following relevant topics:

     

    • New requirements for arbitration institutions after the reform of arbitration in Russia;
    • The possibility of using cryptocurrency when doing business in Russia;
    • The arbitrability of different types of corporate disputes;
    • The pre-emptive right of purchase of a participation interest in a Company;
    • The recovery of damages in favour of a company from its participant;
    • Breach of a corporate contract, etc.

     

    Acting as arbitrators of this prestigious student competition, the lawyers from BEITEN BURKHARDT support the development of moot courts in Russia. Anna Klimova chaired the arbitral tribunal on the first day of the hearings. Sergey Morozov chaired the arbitral tribunal in one of the quarter finals on the second day. In addition, from September to December 2018 Sergey trained a team of students from Moscow State University, who successfully made it through the qualification rounds and performed commendably in another quarter final.
