Moscow, 17 May 2019 – The event “Russia – success and at a time of crisis”, held on 16 May 2019 at BEITEN BURKHARDT’s office in Frankfurt/Main, attracted considerable interest. In his presentation, Professor Dr. Rainer Wedde provided an overview of the current state of economic development in Russia. A modern localisation policy should motivate companies to set up production facilities in the country.

Sven-Boris Brunner from Exportwirtschaft ICS GmbH outlined the key compliance issues for exports which are of particular importance for Russia in connection with the sanctions. Due circumspection is vital due to the threat of high fines if they are violated.

Then Philipp H. Laass from  Euler Hermes AG presented the promotional opportunities for a business in Russia. Traditionally Russia has been one of the most important countries for Hermes. After a sharp fall in 2017, it is now receiving more and more requests.

The drafting of contracts when doing business in Russia, and also legal enforcement, were the key topics of the speech delivered by Bilgeis Mamedova, from the Moscow office of BEITEN BURKHARDT. It is very important to spend a great deal of time and effort on the consistent drafting of contracts in order to avoid legal disputes in future. If the matter does end up in a dispute, however, the Russian judicial system is better than its reputation.  

The event was closed by Christian Muhr, responsible for business issues in Russia for H.M. Heizkörper GmbH & Co. KG, who submitted a practical report. He described vividly his own experience in Russia. Whoever is persistent will succeed.

There was a lively discussion between the participants during the event. In addition, BEITEN BURHARDT’s brochure “Dispute Resolution in Russia” was presented at the event.  The brochure contains detailed information on the judicial system and ways of resolving possible Disputes.
