BEITEN BURKHARDT at the 4th annual Conference of the Russian Arbitration Association

On 20th of April Moscow was the venue for the 4th Annual Conference of the Russian Arbitration Association (RAA). The conference was dedicated to the key amendments to legislation on arbitration and international arbitration.

The speakers included:

  • Manfred Heider, VIAC
  • Annette Magnusson, SCC
  • Caroline Ming, SCAI
  • Kevin Nash, SIAC
  • Kathryn Sanger, HKIAC
  • Datuk Sundra Rajoo, KLRCA

The participants discussed arbitration reforms during the plenary session. In addition, they considered the issue of the Americanisation of international arbitration and also discussed the high-profile arbitration cases of 2016. The following session was one of the most heated: "Is a chicken not a bird, Poland not a foreign country, and a woman not an arbitrator? Do we need special treatment of female arbitrators?"

BEITEN BURKHARDT Partner Alexander Bezborodov delivered a speech during the session "High-profile arbitration cases of 2016" on the topic "Overview of judicial practice in 2016. Form of arbitration agreement." He talked about the main issues that may arise during the conclusion of arbitration agreements and also cited the most interesting cases in this area as examples.

The annual meeting of members of the Russian Arbitration Association was also held as part of the conference. The results of the Association’s work during 2016 were summarised at the meeting. It is worth recalling that BEITEN BURKHARDT has been an active member of the Association since its foundation.
