Dear Friends and Colleagues,
Here comes the July issue of our International Briefing, our English newsletter for our (inter-)national clients, colleagues and friends.
In this edition of our newsletter, we will, as always, highlight developments in the German legal landscape that might be of interest to you or your clients' business operations in Germany. This month, the focus lies on:
- a review of Germany’s approach to implementation of the EU Mobility Directive, attempting to balance the interests of various stakeholders,
- an update on product and management liability, and
- an outline of modernization/digitalization efforts in the field of corporate law.
But before you refer to some light legal reading, we want to share some of our exciting news and achievements with you:
- On 16-18 June 2023, the ADVANT member firms have held their second ADVANT Live Meeting, this year in Rome. Nearly 500 lawyers from France, Germany and Italy celebrated our second anniversary. We worked together on identifying current trends in the M&A market – the result of our joint effort can be inspected in form of the 2022/23 ADVANT M&A Deal Point Study, which we are happy to share with you. And to no surprise, working hard on this and other matters, paved the way for some late night celebrations. And we believe we have a reason to celebrate: since launching in September 2021, ADVANT has carved out a unique place in the legal landscape of Europe, offering a seamless client experience and a distinctive advantage to clients seeking to expand into, or within, continental Europe. In recognition of its success to date, ADVANT has been awarded International Firm of the Year at the 2022 Legal Business Awards in London.
- And we had more reason to celebrate: on 16 June 2023, the US publisher Best Lawyers, in cooperation with the German Handelsblatt, has ranked more than 70 of ADVANT Beiten’s lawyers in its "Best Lawyers in Germany" Edition 2024. We are particularly pleased that with Gerrit Ponath and Stephan Rechten we have two "Lawyers of the year" amidst our ranks – and we are very proud that three of our younger colleagues Alexander Braun, Moritz Jenne and Markus Schönherr have been nominated as "Ones to Watch".
With this great team we are happy to assist you on all matters related to your activities in Germany and continental Europe.
Now, before you take a deep dive into the July International Briefing, a piece of advice in light of recent developments: in M&A transactions, pay special attention to the notification obligations under foreign trade law, especially when performing a due diligence analysis on a transport and logistics business. Germany has had a very liberal approach in the past, but the scrutiny has increased due to recent geopolitical events.
